Great UV Protection & Ultimate Transparency, ZINA Dispersion Newly Launched!

By Jeong, Aruem
Translated By Lee, James
September 2024, NO.41

Hi, how are you?

In this issue, we are introducing ZINA-75C5 & ZINA-75CC, dispersions developed using the ZINA series, which demonstrate great UV protection & ultimate transparency. These are follow-up products to ZINA-75B & ZINA-75AB, which we introduced last February.

ZINA-75C5 (Coco-Caprylate/Caprate Based) and ZINA-75CC (Dicaprylyl Carbonate Based) are high-concentration dispersions containing 75% of the ZINA series inside, which is exceptionally transparent zinc oxide due to its uniform particle size.

The ZINA dispersion series possesses great UV protection properties. In-vitro test results have demonstrated that it exhibits greater UV protection compared to other dispersions.

Although ZINA dispersion is a high-concentration dispersion containing 75% of Zinc Oxide powder inside, it maintains a low viscosity due to its special proprietary surface treatment method, maximizing ease of use.

The ZINA dispersion series boasts great UV protection & ultimate transparency as a user-friendly high-concentration dispersion. It is an ideal product for developing transparent sunscreens based on Zinc Oxide, using ester-based oils.

IARC Raises Talc’s Cancer Risk Classification

By Kim, Yongsung
Translated By Ko, Eunyoung
September 2024, NO.40

Hi, how are you?

In this issue, we would like to introduce the recent announcement from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) regarding the updated cancer risk classification of talc.

Last July, the IARC, an agency under the World Health Organization (WHO), published a reassessment of the carcinogenic potential of talc and acrylonitrile in the British medical journal Lancet Oncology.

Talc, a mineral substance widely used in cosmetics, food, pharmaceuticals, and other consumer goods, has long been subject to concerns about its potential carcinogenicity.

According to this new study, even talc that does not contain asbestos or asbestos-like substances is now classified as probably carcinogenic to humans.

Group 2A: Probably carcinogenic to humans
Group 2B: Possibly carcinogenic to humans

The reclassification of talc’s cancer risk is expected to result in regulatory impacts, such as usage restrictions or warning labels under California Proposition 65 in the United States and the European Cosmetics Regulation EC 1223/2009.

In response, Sunjin introduces SUNPRESS-TR as a substitute for talc, which has been newly classified with an increased cancer risk.

This raw material spreads more smoothly with a lower coefficient of friction than talc, providing a gentle, natural adherence to the skin without irritation.

Additionally, with excellent molding properties, it stays undamaged during drop tests, ensuring superior product quality and durability compared to talc.

Experience a safer and more innovative alternative to talc with this new material.

Elevated O/W Cream Experience: Enhanced with SFGEL and Ceramide

By Jeong, Areum
Translated By Ko, Eunyoung
September 2024, NO.37

Hi, how are you?

In this issue, we are excited to introduce a luxurious O/W cream formulation using Silicone Free Elastic Gel, SFGEL-S, and ceramide.

What is SFGEL? SFGEL is a new gelling agent designed for clean beauty concepts, offering a luxurious feel in various emulsions without the use of silicone. It enhances smoothness and provides excellent spreadability.

By incorporating SFGEL-S, you can emphasize a luxurious sensory experience in your products.

A minimum of 2% SFGEL-S allows for the creation of formulations with a cushiony texture. Additionally, by using 0.1% of Ceraplex Mix Aqua, the formula contains 100 ppm of ceramide, further enhancing the luxurious feel.

Moreover, formulations using SFGEL can achieve a higher viscosity compared to those using silicone gels. In our tests, formulations with SFGEL-S exhibited a viscosity approximately 6 times higher than those with silicone gel, while SFGEL-M showed an increase of about 9 times.

By Kim, Yongsung
Translated By Lim, Julia
August 2024, NO.36

Hi, how are you?

In this issue, we will guide companies looking to enter the Chinese cosmetics market through important regulatory changes that they must be aware of. Additionally, we will summarize the key preparations that companies need to undertake.

According to a recent announcement by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China, starting from September 1, 2024, the submission process for the registration and application materials for cosmetics and new cosmetic ingredients will be fully digitalized.

1. Summary of Key Points

•Effective Date: September 1, 2024

•Changes: The traditional method of submitting paper documents will no longer be required. All materials must be submitted electronically through the information service platform.

•Affected Parties: Domestic and international cosmetics and new cosmetic ingredient registrants/applicants/responsible persons and manufacturers in China.

2. Background of the Digital Transition

•NMPA aims to enhance cosmetic regulations and the quality of government services through this initiative.
The goal is to significantly improve the efficiency of the registration and application processes, particularly by simplifying procedures while strengthening the reliability of the submitted materials.

3. Key Considerations for Foreign Companies

•Chinese Agent: Foreign companies must submit their materials through a legal entity within China. The Chinese agent plays a crucial role in ensuring successful market entry, and close cooperation with them is essential.

•Preparations: Companies need to prepare for the digitalization of submission materials and familiarize themselves with the submission process through the platform.

•Verification: For certain materials, third-party certification and authenticity verification of original documents may be required.

The rapidly changing regulatory landscape in China’s cosmetics market represents a critical turning point for maintaining competitiveness.

At Sunjin Beauty Science, we are closely monitoring these regulatory changes and are building an evidence-based documentation system to ensure that our products comply with the increasingly stringent requirements of Chinese regulatory authorities.

Upgrade Your Skincare Formulations with Sensory Powder!

By Ko, Eunyoung
August 2024, NO.34

Hi, how are you?

In this newsletter, we are excited to introduce the benefits of using Sensory Powder in your skincare formulations.

First, the Soft Focus effect: By incorporating Sensory Powder into your formulations, you can scatter light to blur wrinkles and skin imperfections. This gives the skin an instantly smoother and more even appearance.

Second, improved sensory experience: The spherical beads enhance the spreadability and texture of your formulation, providing a silky rolling sensation.

Third, reduction of oiliness: Using porous Sensory Powder that absorbs oil, you can reduce stickiness and make fresh, matte formulations.

Fourth, fast absorption: While the rapid absorption is visually apparent, it’s actually due to the evaporation of volatile components in the formulation. However, the use of porous, lipophilic Sensory Powder enhances this effect, making it look like the product is absorbed quickly.

To see absorption tests and product selection guides for each product, please check the YouTube clip below!

Fifth, selective sebum absorption: By using porous, lipophilic Sensory Powder that selectively absorbs oil, you can create formulations that maintain moisture while delivering a fresh feel.

If you would like to learn more about the key ingredients for selective sebum absorption, please watch the YouTube clip below!

If you are interested in learning more about Sunjin Beauty Science’s range of Sensory Powder products, please feel free to contact us.

August 2024, NO.33

Hi, how are you?

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who visited our booth at In-Cosmetics Korea 2024, held from July 24th to 26th at COEX, Seoul.

For those who unfortunately couldn’t attend In-Cosmetics Korea 2024 this time, we would like to introduce SUNJIN BEAUTY SCIENCE’s UV capsule, SUNSIL-S, which caught the visitors’ eye during the exhibition period.

SUNJIN BEAUTY SCIENCE has developed a UV capsule product that can be used in water-based formulations, offering products that achieve better UV protection and formulation stability without stickiness.

SUNJIN BEAUTY SCIENCE’s unique product, SUNSIL-S, which is an ingredient where the organic UV filter BEMT(Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl triazine) is encapsulated in silica. Being free from microplastic issues, it is well-suited for use in products targeting the global market.

Furthermore, SUNSIL-S contains 30% of BEMT inside, providing high UV protection efficacy. Despite its potent sun protection, it offers a light skin feel due to the silica, making it optimized for O/W gel-type formulations.

While we’re proud of our existing encapsulated PMMA Hybrid series and silica capsules (SUNSIL-Tin50 and SUNSIL-S), SUNJIN BEAUTY SCIENCE is planning to launch various products newly in the second half of this year. We kindly ask for your continued interest.

Beyond regulatory compliance, pioneering new markets in the era of ESG!

Beyond regulatory compliance, pioneering new markets in the era of ESG!

By Kim, Yongsung
Translated By Lim, Julia
July 2024, NO.32

Hi, how are you?

In this issue, we will introduce the “European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR),” which will become mandatory from the end of this year and the recent “ESG-related legislation” passed by the EU.

In July 2021, the EU set a goal to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by 55% compared to 1990 levels by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through its carbon neutrality legislative package, “Fit For 55,” which includes 12 measures to address climate change.

As part of achieving these goals, in April 2023, the European Union passed the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) to regulate the export of products related to deforestation and forest degradation within the European market.

This regulation identifies seven commodities—cocoa, coffee, soy, palm oil, timber, rubber, and livestock—as major drivers of deforestation and requires traceability and legal compliance for these products imported into the European market.

According to the EUDR regulation “EU 2023/1115,” products sold in the EU market must prove that they were not produced on land deforested after December 2020.

This regulation came into effect on June 29, 2023, and will become mandatory from December 30, 2024. Products that do not meet these requirements will be banned from being exported to and sold across all 27 EU member states. Additionally, violations of this regulation will result in fines of at least 4% of the company’s revenue within the EU.

We handle palm oil, one of the regulated commodities, and we have established a deforestation-free supply chain by using only RSPO-certified palm-derived ingredients.

Meanwhile, the EU recently passed a bundle of five ESG-related laws.

Among them are the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which are expected to significantly impact various industries, including the cosmetics sector.

These two laws are anticipated to apply not only to large corporations but also to small and medium-sized enterprises within their supply chains in the next two years.

As demand for value-driven consumption increases, ESG is evolving beyond the traditional concept of clean beauty to incorporate sustainability into products.

Sunjin Beauty Science will comply with ESG-related market requirements to provide products that enable our customers to secure future market competitiveness.
