Innovative ‘Ceraplex’ Series with SunjinBeauty Science’s Stabilization Technology Recognized by SCI

By Lim, Julia
December 2024, NO.54

Hi, how are you?

In this issue, we introduce the Ceraplex series, Sunjin Beauty Science’s unique ceramide delivery system featuring a stabilization technology distinct from conventional methods.

Sunjin Beauty Science has elucidated the stabilization mechanism and moisturizing efficacy of the CERAPLEX series. This achievement has been published in an SCI journal (Journal of Materials Chemistry B, (Impact Factor 6.1)), establishing it as a globally recognized technology.

*Journal of Materials Chemistry B

: A weekly peer-reviewed scientific journal covering the properties, applications, and synthesis of new materials related to biology and medicine

The Ceraplex series is the world’s first proprietary Ceramide delivery system, stabilizing high concentrations of ceramides for easy application in both oil phase and water phase.

Traditional drug delivery systems stabilize formulations into liposomes or emulsions using low-molecular-weight surfactants or organic materials like lecithin.
In contrast, Sunjin Beauty Science employs hectorite nanoclay materials to stabilize slightly soluble substances.

The Ceraplex series, utilizing hectorite, achieves greater stability compared to traditional ceramide stabilization methods like liposomes. The hectorite encapsulates the ceramides, preventing lamella bridges from merging.

The Ceraplex series is an enhanced Ceramide delivery system offering reinforced stability, with options tailored for emulsification types (W/O, O/W) and ceramide varieties (natural, synthetic).

Thai FDA Strengthens Safety Standards through TiO2 Cosmetic Regulations!

By Kim, Yongsung
Translated by Lee, James
December 2024, NO.53

Hi, how are you?

On November 18, 2024, the Thai Food and Drug Administration(Thai FDA) revised regulations regarding the use of titanium dioxide in cosmetics, modifying restrictions, permitted pigments, and requirements for use as a UV filter.

This amendment reflects the approvals from the 39th ASEAN Cosmetic Scientific Body(ACSB) conference held in July 2024, aiming to align Thailand’s cosmetic regulations with the latest ASEAN Cosmetic Directive(ACD).

Under this amendment, titanium dioxide can be used in cosmetics only under specific conditions, with precise restrictions on concentration and product types.

For example, titanium dioxide can be used as a UV filter, but in nano form, it must meet specific safety requirements. Additionally, new labeling requirements are being applied to products containing titanium dioxide to ensure clear information for consumers.

This regulatory amendment is part of Thailand’s efforts as an ASEAN member state to adhere to regional standards, enhance consumer safety, and improve the international competitiveness of the cosmetics industry.

Cosmetic manufacturers and importers must be aware of these changes and ensure their products comply with the new regulations.

To provide customers with trustworthy products, SUNJIN has conducted aerodynamic diameter analysis of our titanium dioxide through an external professional analytical institution.

The analysis results show that our titanium dioxide products contain less than 1% of particles with an aerodynamic diameter over 10µm, thereby perfectly meeting the latest regulations required by Thai FDA.

SUNJIN continuously monitors cosmetic industry regulations announced by regulatory agencies in the United States, Europe, and other countries, supporting our customers in ensuring their products comply with regulations across different markets.

We remain committed to providing products that customers can trust through ongoing quality management and consistent regulatory compliance efforts.

December 2024, NO.52

Hi, how are you?

In this issue, we are pleased to introduce the particle size analysis service provided by the Sunjin Clinical Research Center (SCRC) using state-of-the-art FE-SEM equipment.

Through the use of FE-SEM equipment, high-resolution and high-magnification surface analysis is possible, along with quantitative particle size analysis (Q-SEM), which goes beyond the imaging capabilities of conventional SEM equipment. This enables precise measurement of the fine structures and particle size distribution of powders.

As global regulations on particle size become increasingly stringent, the importance of SEM analysis continues to grow. For instance, China’s NMPA mandates SEM data for cosmetic raw material registration, while French authorities have adopted Q-SEM analysis for identifying nanomaterials. Additionally, the revised COSMOS V4 now requires Q-SEM data submission for raw material registration.

SCRC’s analysis services provide high-quality reports that comply with international standards. Beyond particle size analysis, our FE-SEM capabilities also extend to other specialized analyses, such as evaluating hair cuticle damage.

Meet global certification requirements and secure the critical data you need for quality control with SCRC’s analysis services!

November 2024, NO.49

Hi, how are you?

In this issue, we are pleased to introduce our Invisible Daily Sun Cream, an O/W hybrid sunscreen formula featuring a lightweight, non-sticky texture achieved with our newly launched silica capsule product, SUNSIL-S.

Invisible Daily Sun Cream is an O/W hybrid sunscreen formula containing 8% of SUNSIL-S, our newly launched silica capsule product.

What is SUNSIL-S? It is an ingredient where BEMT (Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyltriazine), a chemical UV filter, is encapsulated in silica. Since it can be incorporated into the water phase, it enables the development of sunscreen formulations with a lightweight texture.

When using SUNSIL-S compared to using the same net amount of BEMT in the formula, we observed enhanced UV protection performance (from SPF50 PA13.91 to SPF53.3 PA17.4). Furthermore, the use of silica capsule product effectively improves the sticky texture typically associated with sunscreens.

In addition to SUNSIL-S containing BEMT, we have recently launched various silica-encapsulated chemical UV filters. You can selectively use these ingredients based on your preferred chemical UV filtering compounds.

Invisible Daily Sun Cream is an O/W hybrid sunscreen formula featuring powerful UV protection (SPF50, PA4+) and a non-sticky texture, achieved through the use of our silica capsule product, SUNSIL-S.

Next-Generation UV Protection: New Silica Capsule Products Launch!

By Jeong, Areum
Translated By Ko, Eunyoung
October 2024, NO.45

Hi, how are you?

In this issue, we’re excited to introduce a new lineup of silica capsule products – SUNSIL-AB, SUNSIL-EHT, SUNSIL-DHHB, and SUNSIL-BLP – following the launch of SUNSIL-S last April. These innovative silica capsules allow traditionally oil-phase organic UV filters to be used in the water phase, creating formulations with a lightweight feel and enhanced UV protection.

The Silica UV Capsule series encapsulates organic UV filters, typically used in oil phases, within silica, enabling their use in the water phase to develop lightweight sun care formulations. This new series is an evolution of our Hybrid series (PMMA capsules), launched in 2007 and now selling over 40MT annually. By using silica instead of PMMA, these products address microplastic concerns.

Most organic UV filters require an oil phase, but SUNSIL-AB, SUNSIL-EHT, SUNSIL-DHHB, and SUNSIL-BLP are water-phase compatible. This flexibility allows formulators to use UV filters in both the oil and water phases, maximizing UV protection effectiveness.

In comparative studies, SUNSIL-AB demonstrated superior UV protection in both in-vivo and in-vitro tests at equivalent net content when compared to BMDBM in the oil phase.

Additionally, thanks to their lightweight feel, these silica capsules are ideal for O/W sun gel formulations where oil use is limited. You can create SPF50, PA++++ sun gel formulations with a non-sticky, light feel – without ethanol.

SUNSIL-AB, SUNSIL-EHT, SUNSIL-DHHB, and SUNSIL-BLP contain 30% organic UV filters in silica capsules, providing a more lightweight texture and higher UV protection.

If you have any inquiries, please feel free to contact us.
