Five reasons why you should use Sensory Powder in Skincare Formulation

In this newsletter, we will introduce 5 reasons to use Sensory Powder in skincare formulation.

First reason is for Soft Focus effect. By using Sensory Powder in the formulation, diffuse reflection can be induced to blur skin defects such as wrinkles.

The second is to improve spreadability. By using spherical Sensory Powder in formulation, marketing claims such as ‘Ultra comfort textures’ are available by improving the usability of the product.

Will the FDA Have Authority to Regulate General Cosmetics?

We will talk about the ‘Beauty Cosmetic Regulation Modernization Act in U.S, MoCRA(Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022)’ in this issue. After MoCRA goes into effect on 29^th Dec, the products which are not registered with the FDA can no longer be sold in the United States.

Actually, the FD&C(Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act) which was enacted in 1938 mainly regulated OTC(Over The Counter) products. However, MoCRA which is designed to complement the FD&C is expected to expand the FDA’s authority to include not only OTC products but also general cosmetic categories.

Under the implementation of MoCRA, all manufacturing and processing facilities, as well as product ingredients, will be required to be registered. It also demands compliance with the regulation of GMP(Good Manufacturing Practice).

MoCRA does not have specific regulations on cosmetic raw material manufacturers actually. However, OEM/ODM companies and brand owners who engage in product listing should use raw materials that are manufactured in facilities compliant with GMP regulations.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who visited Sunjin’s booth during in-cosmetics Korea 2023, which was held in Seoul from July 12^th to 14^th.

For those who couldn’t attend in-cosmetics Korea this year, we would like to briefly introduce the two most popular products showcased at the Sunjin’s booth during the exhibition period.

The first product, the Ceraplex series, is a ceramide delivery system using hectorite, which allows for easy incorporation of ceramides into both O/W and W/O formulations. Among formulations, the balm-type formulation received significant attention due to its exceptional texture and feel.

The second product is our new silica product, SUNSIL-LUX150H. It has a smooth and pearly surface, providing excellent fluidity and superior transparency. Customers who compared it with the conventional silica were highly satisfied with its exceptional smoothness and transparency.

We will showcase a variety of new products and formulations at upcoming exhibitions: Suppliers’ Day in California, in-cosmetics Asia in Bangkok, Cosmopack Asia in Hong Kong and Making cosmetics in Milan.

Sunjin Beauty Science renews RSPO Certification!

 Sunjin Beauty Science obtained RSPO certification for the first time in March 2020. This year, in June, we have passed the annual inspection and renewed RSPO certification.

RSPO stands for Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, and is an organization jointly established by companies and environmental groups to prevent environmental destruction caused by palm oil production.
The RSPO certification is a growing demand worldwide for an eco-friendly certification designed to ensure that palm oil is produced in a reasonable way that protects the environment while also meeting social needs.

To obtain RSPO SCC certification, you must comply with the requirements of three criteria documents.

In order to meet the requirements of the standard, a system with organizational structure, policies, procedures, processes and resources is required at all stages of ‘purchase – storage – process – sales’.

Sunjin Beauty Science uses all palm-derived raw materials with RSPO-certified ones and chooses only RSPO-certified raw materials after reviewing their effectiveness when developing new products.

Currently, more than 60 products are sold as RSPO certified products, and we will continue to strictly manage the certification system to provide sustainable and eco-friendly products to the customers.

Baby Sun Care formulation for Chinese market!

 In this newsletter, We will introduce Baby Sun Care formulation that complies with China’s children’s cosmetics management regulations, which have been enforced since 2022.

In the case of sunscreen cosmetics for children in China, five items must be observed. 1. Do not use genetic engineering technology, 2. Do not use nano technology, 3. Do not use more than 3 types of sunscreen ingredients, 4. SPF should not exceed 30, 5. Use only half amount of sunscreen raw materials as for adults.

Therefore, Sunjin Beauty Science has developed a formulation for Zinc Only SPF30, PA3+ using only 20% of SUNZnO-AS and non-nano zinc oxide surface-treated with Triethoxy caprylylsilane as a sunscreen raw material in order to meet these Chinese regulations.

In addition, Sunjin Beauty Science sells various Zinc Oxide products produced in API GMP manufacturing facilities that have received FDA Inspection, so please give us a lot of interest.

Silica from Mother Nature

In this issue, I will explain about silica, which is derived from mother nature and is gaining recognition as an environmentally friendly and sustainable ingredient.

Sunjin Beauty Science’s silica, the SUNSIL series, is manufactured using raw materials sourced from the Cape Flattery Silica Mine, located near the eastern coast of Australia.

The Cape Flattery Mine Site has a significant untapped resources of silica sand, estimated to last for the next 100 years. Therefore, it is focused on sustainable resource development, with a priority given to the surrounding natural environment.

Efforts to achieve this include rehabilitating the topsoil at the site by restoring vegetation. After silica sand extraction, natural plant seeds are sown to restore the site to its greenery with trees and vegetation, over a period of 3 to 4 years.

Sunjin Beauty Science also fully supports this effort and promise to use the sustainable silica sand.

New COSMOS-Standard has officially come into effect!

In this newsletter, we will introduce the main contents of 「 New COSMOS-Standard」which has officially come into effect recently, and the ingredients registered by Sunjin Beauty Science.

The ECOCERT Group has revised the COSMOS standard for the first time in 5 years. In 2021, they conducted a public consultation for COSMOS stakeholders, internal and external experts, and existing certified customers.

As a result, the official version of the standard was issued in January 2023, and the application time is different for each type.

In the case of cosmetic raw materials, the new standards apply from products to be registered after June 1, 2023. Also, data of registered ingredients must be updated by December 1, 2024.

For the finished products, the new standards will be applied from June 1, 2024, which is a year later than the raw materials. Certification of existing registered products is valid only when it is produced before December 1, 2025. All cosmetic products manufactured after December 1, 2025 must comply with the new standards.

The revised standards also reflect regulations and trends in the global cosmetic industry, such as Europe’s nano regulations, RSPO certification, sustainable materials and supply chain management.

To keep up with this trend, companies related to the cosmetic industry must prepare policies to practice Green Chemistry in various aspects from now on.

SUNJIN is keep dealing with the requirements of the standards in order to obtain COSMOS certification for not only existing certified products but also more new products.

Currently, about 60 items have been certified so far.
We will continue to supply products for Green Chemistry through the development and production of products that comply the conditions required by the COSMOS standards.
