For those who unfortunately couldn’t attend In-Cosmetics Korea 2024 this time, we would like to introduce SUNJIN BEAUTY SCIENCE’s UV capsule, SUNSIL-S, which caught the visitors’ eye during the exhibition period.

SUNJIN BEAUTY SCIENCE has developed a UV capsule product that can be used in water-based formulations, offering products that achieve better UV protection and formulation stability without stickiness.

SUNJIN BEAUTY SCIENCE’s unique product, SUNSIL-S, which is an ingredient where the organic UV filter BEMT(Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl triazine) is encapsulated in silica. Being free from microplastic issues, it is well-suited for use in products targeting the global market.

Furthermore, SUNSIL-S contains 30% of BEMT inside, providing high UV protection efficacy. Despite its potent sun protection, it offers a light skin feel due to the silica, making it optimized for O/W gel-type formulations.

 While we’re proud of our existing encapsulated PMMA Hybrid series and silica capsules (SUNSIL-Tin50 and SUNSIL-S), SUNJIN BEAUTY SCIENCE is planning to launch various products newly in the second half of this year. We kindly ask for your continued interest.

Beyond regulatory compliance, pioneering new markets in the era of ESG!

In this issue, we will introduce the “European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR),” which will become mandatory from the end of this year and the recent “ESG-related legislation” passed by the EU.

In July 2021, the EU set a goal to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by 55% compared to 1990 levels by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through its carbon neutrality legislative package, “Fit For 55,” which includes 12 measures to address climate change.

As part of achieving these goals, in April 2023, the European Union passed the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) to regulate the export of products related to deforestation and forest degradation within the European market.

This regulation identifies seven commodities—cocoa, coffee, soy, palm oil, timber, rubber, and livestock—as major drivers of deforestation and requires traceability and legal compliance for these products imported into the European market.

According to the EUDR regulation “EU 2023/1115,” products sold in the EU market must prove that they were not produced on land deforested after December 2020.

This regulation came into effect on June 29, 2023, and will become mandatory from December 30, 2024. Products that do not meet these requirements will be banned from being exported to and sold across all 27 EU member states. Additionally, violations of this regulation will result in fines of at least 4% of the company’s revenue within the EU.

We handle palm oil, one of the regulated commodities, and we have established a deforestation-free supply chain by using only RSPO-certified palm-derived ingredients.

Meanwhile, the EU recently passed a bundle of five ESG-related laws.

Among them are the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which are expected to significantly impact various industries, including the cosmetics sector.

These two laws are anticipated to apply not only to large corporations but also to small and medium-sized enterprises within their supply chains in the next two years.

As demand for value-driven consumption increases, ESG is evolving beyond the traditional concept of clean beauty to incorporate sustainability into products.

EZLite-SF, Enzyme Oil with a Light Feel and Fast Skin Absorption – Global Launch!

We are excited to introduce EZLite-SF, a sunflower oil-based enzyme oil characterized by its light feel and rapid skin absorption, made possible through bioconversion technology.

Enzyme oil is a product that leverages bioconversion technology to adjust the ratios of MAG, DAG, and TAG in traditional vegetable oils. By reducing the proportion of larger molecular weight TAGs and increasing the proportions of smaller molecular weight MAGs and DAGs, EZLite-SF offers a lighter feel and faster skin absorption compared to conventional vegetable oils.

Comparative analysis between traditional sunflower oil and the enzyme oil EZLite-SF has shown that EZLite-SF, with its higher ratio of low molecular weight MAGs and DAGs, is less greasy and absorbs more quickly.

This accelerated skin absorption has been confirmed through Raman Spectroscopy, where measurements taken before application and at 10 and 20 minutes post-application reveal significantly faster absorption of the enzyme oil over time.

Additionally, enzyme oil demonstrates superior solubility for polar ingredients such as UV filters and ceramides, enhancing emulsion stability among other benefits.

Currently, only EZLite-SF, derived from sunflower oil, is available, but we plan to expand this product line in the future. We appreciate your interest and support.

The In-Cosmetics Korea 2024 exhibition will be held at COEX in Seoul next week, from July 24th to 26th (for three days).

 At this year’s In-Cosmetics Korea, you can check out the TINA Series, natural coating pigments with powerful water repellency. The TINA Series is free of silicone and alumina, and is a natural coating pigment series approved under COSMOS v4 for a clean beauty concept.

The TINA Series, despite being a natural coating pigment, boasts water repellency on par with the commonly used Alkyl Silane coatings. This exceptional water repellency enables the formulation of long-lasting products.

ZnO Only Formulation with the Ultimate Transparency:
Pure ZINA Suncare

In this issue, we introduce Pure ZINA Suncare, a sunscreen formulation that uses only ZnO as the UV filter, providing powerful UV protection with SPF 50 and PA++++ while offering superior transparency.

To achieve the powerful UV protection (SPF 50, PA++++), 34.5% of ZINA-75AB, a dispersion of the newly launched ZnO powder, ZINA series, was used for Pure ZINA Suncare.

The ZINA series is significantly more transparent compared to SUNZnO-NAS, our existing product, and other ZnO products in the market. This enhanced transparency is due to the ZINA series having a more uniform particle size compared to SUNZnO-NAS and other ZnO products in the market.

Additionally, despite containing a high concentration of 75% ZnO powder, the ZINA-75AB dispersion offers low viscosity due to a unique surface treatment method. This feature maximizes user convenience.

Pure ZINA Suncare is a formulation characterized by its transparency, using only ZINA-75AB as the UV filter, achieving powerful UV protection with SPF 50 and PA++++.

SunjinBeauty Science practices eco-friendly and sustainable management by renewing its RSPO certification!

Sunjin Beauty Science first obtained RSPO certification in March 2020 and conducted its fourth follow-up audit this March, which was completed without any non-conformities.

RSPO stands for the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, an organization jointly established by companies and environmental groups to prevent environmental destruction caused by indiscriminate palm oil production.

RSPO certification is an eco-friendly international certification issued by strictly verifying compliance with standards for environmental protection, management transparency, sustainability, and community obligations across all stages of the palm oil industry, from production to distribution and processing.

At Sunjin, we handle only 100% RSPO-certified palm-derived raw materials. Currently, we manage over 70 MB*-grade products to the SG* grade level and sell them as RSPO-certified products.

* RSPO-certified Supply Chain Models:
– IP (Identity Preserved): Uses certified oil from a single plantation.
– SG (Segregated): Uses certified oil from two or more plantations.
– MB (Mass Balance): Allows the use of both certified and non-certified oil from two or more plantations.

Meanwhile, the European Union has enforced the EUDR* (European Union Deforestation Regulation), which imposes stricter requirements for forest protection and sustainable agricultural practices.

*EUDR: A regulation aimed at controlling the export of products related to seven regulated items (cocoa, coffee, soy, palm oil, timber, rubber, and cattle) within the European market.

Renewable Silica from Mother Nature, Streaming Now on Youtube!

 In this issue, we will introduce you to silica, a material that is gaining attention as an environmentally friendly and sustainable resource that exists abundantly on Earth as an inorganic mineral.

 Silica is the most abundant element in the Earth’s crust, serving as a primary component in all rocks and the main constituent of sand. With such vast quantities of silica deposited across the globe, it is essentially an inexhaustible resource. This abundance makes silica a natural resource that can be utilized sustainably without the risk of depletion.

 Silica sand existing in its natural state at the Cape Flattery Mine in Australia is extracted and moved to SUNJIN Beauty Science’s manufacturing facilities. Then, it goes through refining and processing to be reborn as SUNSIL series, which is a premium silica line. SUNJIN Beauty Science’s SUNSIL series is recognized for its excellent quality and is being supplied to various clients around the world, including the United States, Europe, and Asia.

 Silica is gaining attention as an alternative to the micro-plastic problem that threatens the Earth’s environment. While micro-plastics are light and flow into the oceans, accumulating in ecosystems, silica is relatively heavy, easily sinks, and has a lower risk of biological absorption or ecosystem disruption.

 Silica that has sunk into the sea forms sedimentary rock over a long period of time as it is deposited. Later, it changes into metamorphic rock under heat and pressure, and becomes igneous rock through magma melting processes. As this igneous rock erupts to the Earth’s surface again,silica is newly created in a cycle. These process of rock formation and circulation is called the Rock Cycle.
