미국에서 현재 시판 중인 자외선 차단제는 2014년 Sunscreen innovation act에 따라 FDA에 의해 규제되고 있었으나 자외선 차단제의 품질, 안전성, 효과를 개선하기 위해 2019년 2월 21일 강화된 규정을 제안 및 발표하였습니다. 5월 28일까지 90일간 공개 검토와 함께 의견을 수렴할 방침입니다.

규제안에 따르면 현재 시판중인 16가지 자외선차단제 활성성분 중,
ZnO와 TiO2는 안전하고 효과적인 성분(GRASE)으로 판단한 반면

PABA와 trolamine salicayclate는 GRASE에 부적합한 것으로 보고 있습니다. 나머지 12가지 활성성분에 대해서 안전성과 관련한 추가 데이터 제출을 요구하고 있습니다.
