By Kim, Sanguk
September 2021, NO.33

Hi, How are you?

As a part of ESG(Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, Sunjin Beauty Science supported ‘The ocean clean-up project’ in August.

ESG is the acronym for Environmental, Social, and Governance. It is a growing trend to strengthen corporate sustainability by creating green and social values and enhancing responsible and transparent management.

The ocean clean-up project was an activity where volunteers collected a total 4,000kg of garbage by walking 87km alongside the sea to Janghang, the location of Sunjin’s manufacturing plant.

Sunjin also participated in this project picking up litter and offering a place for volunteers as a part of ESG management.

Hi, How are you?

Today, we would like to introduce AQUA CCTG and AQUA PHYTOSQULANE, the self emulsifiable oils for diverse formulations.

AQUA CCTG and AQUA PHYTOSQUALANE are nano-emulsions which allow for the addition of oils into the water phase by simple stirring without special high shear homogenizer such as a microfluidizer.

AQUA CCTG contains 30% of Capric/caprylic triglyceride and AQUA PHYTOSQUALANE contains 30% of Squalane. They are PEG/PPG/GMO free, so perfect ingredients when formulating for Clean Beauty.

Compared to the other AQUA Oil series, AQUA CCTG and AQUA PHYTOSQUALANE have high oxidation resistance and better stability with lower iodine value.

SUNPRESS-TR – The great alternative to Talc Powder!

By Kim, Sanguk
August 2021, NO.30

Hi, How are you?

Today, we would like to introduce SUNPRESS-TR which can replace Talc and be used in pressed powder formulas.

IARC, the specialized cancer agency of the WHO, classifies talc that contains trace amounts of asbestos as “carcinogenic to humans”. Therefore the need for talc substitutes is increasing.

SUNPRESS-TR, developed as a Talc substitute, has great skin adhesivity similar to Talc, Sericite, Boron nitride and Urethane Acrylate Copolymer.

In addition, SUNPRESS-TR has the lowest coefficient of friction among the materials so it gives a softer feel.

Last but not least, it has great pressability. When we conducted drop test using 100% of each material, SUNPRESS-TR endured the drop the most after EPU-2X.

If you have any inquiries, please feel free to contact us.

How to Make Even Spreading Tone-up Cream

By Kim, Sanguk
August 2021, NO.29

Hi, How are you?

Today, we would like to provide a Tone-up solution to even out and brighten skin tone with less stain on your mask in COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Consumers seek a tone-up cream with natural and even-spreading tone-up effect, not leaving white chalk line on their skin.

When you  produce a tone-up cream with even complexion, it’s better to use Hydrophobic surface treated TiO2.  Compared to Hydrophilic TiO2, Hydrophobic TiO2 evenly adheres to the skin as human skin is generally hydrophobic.

Sunjin provides AQUA-TITAN,which is a hydrophobic TiO2 water base dispersion, and AQUA-TITAN(EWG) using ingredients with EWG green grade only.

If you have any inquiries, please feel free to contact us.

New Island Ban in Thailand

By Kim, Sanguk
August 2021, NO.28

Hi, How are you?

Today we would like to update you on a New Island Ban in Thailand.

Sunscreens that contain chemicals damaging corals such as Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, 4-methylbenzylidene camphor or Butylparaben have been banned by the Thailand government from all of its marine parks.

Anyone found using sunscreen that contains the chemicals can be fined 100,000 baht. It is unclear, however, how the rule will be enforced by authorities.

There are similar bans in other tourist destinations including the Pacific island of Palau and the US state of Hawaii, and thus the demand for the mineral-based sunscreens containing Zinc Oxide and Titanium dioxide is expected to grow.

More details can be found in the link below.

Proposal from Sunjin for Microplastic Bead Replacement

By Kim, Sanguk
August 2021, NO.27

 Hi, How are you?

Today we will introduce products developed to replace microplastic beads which persist in the environment and have a damaging effect on marine life and human health.

Sunjin’s products provide the unique sensory feel that microplastic beads have with Silica,a natural substance.

For the replacement of Solid PMMA which has low oil absorption and price level, you can use SUNSIL-130NP.

For the replacement of Porous PMMA with high oil absorption and hydrophobicity, you can use SUNSIL-OLEO series which can selectively absorb sebum over moisture.

In addition, Silicone beads can be replaced by using SUNSIL-SILK which gives unique texture with Trihydroxystearin and SUNSIL-150H with high absorption together.

Last but not least, for the replacement of Nylon-12, we provide SUNSIL-SOFT absorbed with Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil and coated with Trihydroxystearin.

If you have any inquiries about the products, feel free to contact us.

What is Non-Flammable Esterquat?

By Kim, Sanguk
July 2021, NO.25

 Hi, How are you?

Today we would like to explain about Non-Flammable Esterquat. Esterquat is a type of cationic surfactant that helps eliminate static electricity and softens fibers in fabrics.

The solvent for Esterquat is usually IPA or Ethanol which are flammable substances. This causes inconveniences in handling and transportation, such as limited packages and a separate inspection before shipment.

However, Tripropylene Glycol(TPG), Diethylene glycol(DEG) and Dipropylene glycol(DPG) are used as solvents for Non-Flammable Esterquat and it makes shipping and handling much easier.

In addition, it is convenient to use because of its excellent color stability and water dispersibility.

If you are interested in Non-Flammable Esterquat, feel free to contact us.

OMC Free Mineral Sun Milk Formulation by Sunjin

By Kim, Sanguk
July 2021, NO.24

Hi, How are you?

We would like to introduce a Mineral Sun Milk formulation that does not contain PEG, Silicone and OMC, which is one of the banned chemical sunscreens in Hawaii.

The W/O Sun Milk formulation with SPF50 PA4+ was developed using mineral filters only. Mineral sunscreens usually leave a white cast on skin, but this formulation provides high transparency.

We used SUNCLEAR-Z65C5 and Z65M as main UV filters in this formulation.

SUNCLEAR-Z65C5 is a Coco-Caprylate/Caprate based 40nm ZnO dispersion. The nano ZnO provides excellent UV protection and high transparency.
Z65M, which is a Caprylic Capric Triglyceride based 150nm ZnO dispersion, was also used to enhance the UV performance.

If you have any inquiries, please contact us.
