The National Job Award is a prize awarded to companies and institutions that contributed to creating quality jobs. How to formulate a toner with a high concentration of oil(3%)

Hi, How are you?

Today we would like to introduce how to formulate a toner with a high concentration of oil (3%) using self-emulsifiable AQUA Oil series.

AQUA Oil series are translucent nano-emulsions which allow for the incorporation of moisturizing oils into different formulations by simple stirring without the use of a special high shear homogenizer such as a microfluidizer.

 AQUA Oil Series contain 30% of oil. Therefore when you add 10%, you can easily develop a stable toner formulation with 3% oil concentration.

What is Selective Sebum Absorption?

We would like to introduce what is Selective Sebum Absorption and ingredients with this effect.

Selective Sebum Absorption is an important characteristic of micro beads, which absorb oil over water. This property allows for reduced oiliness while not drying the skin.

For this effect, Hydrophobic ingredients should be used. Sunjin provides porous PMMA beads and SUNSIL-OLEO series that are coated with Cetyl Alcohol.

We conducted a test to see if the hydrophobic beads selectively absorb oil even in an emulsion.

On the oily arm with squalane, we applied a lotion containing 4% of different powders. As a result, you can see the selective sebum absorption effect only with SUNPMMA-P and SUNSIL-OLEO130 which are the porous beads.

How to improve the UV performance of your product

Today, for those of you who want to learn how to improve the UV protection of your sunscreen products, we would like to introduce the advantage of using mineral filter dispersions.

Using TiO2 and ZnO dispersions is almost always better than using TiO2 and ZnO powders.  When we compare  ZnO powder and ZnO dispersion individually with the same ZnO content, you can obtain the higher SPF and PA values when using ZnO dispersions.

This result can be explained using a Microscopic image. ZnO is not aggregated when using the dispersion type, thus it has better UV performance.

A simple way to apply Ceramides into O/W formulations

Today, we would like to introduce CERAPLEX MIX AQUA which enables the ability to simply apply Ceramides into O/W formulations.

Ceramide containing formulations using liposomes may exhibit an instability issue as liposomes and emulsion droplets merge. However, CERAPLEX MIX AQUA makes the formulation more stable using Hectorite platelets covering the emulsion droplets.

When we add CERAPLEX MIX AQUA and Liposome products individually into a standard lotion, you can only find Maltese Cross in the one with CERAPLEX MIX AQUA. The Maltese Cross structure can be observed with a polarizing microscope which means the lipid in the formulation mimics Lamellar Membrane Structure.

CERAPLEX MIX AQUA can be simply added after emulsification.

Formulations with Micro Plastic Bead Replacements

Today we would like to introduce formulations using ingredients that can replace microplastic beads.

Sunjin’s SUNSIL products provide the unique sensory feel of microplastic beads using Silica,a natural substance.

The microplastic-free Loose Powder formulation below provides a soft texture using SUNSIL-SOFT which can replace Nylon-12.

The second formulation, microplastic-free Sun Stick, was developed using the combination of SUNSIL-SOFTand SUNSIL-150H.  This sun stick provides a light texture using SUNSIL-SOFT as a replacement for silicone powder and SUNSIL-150H for high absorption.

Lastly is the formulation for a microplastic-free Air Cushion. SUNSIL-SOFT was used in order to achieve a similar sensory feel to Nylon-12.

Check Out Silicone-free Water Drop System!

Today, we would like to introduce ECODROPGEL which is a silicone-free water drop system for Clean Beauty.

ECODROPGEL can be used to form stable W/O emulsions which break quickly upon rubbing on the skin to release water droplets. This provides a fresh texture and visual effect.

Unlike conventional water drop emulsions with silicone, ECODROPGEL enables stable formulations without silicone using Hectorite technology.

The following is a formulation guideline for a silicone-free hand cream using ECODROPGEL which provides a light and fresh texture.
