The easier and faster way to get halal certification

In this issue, we will introduce you how to make it easier to obtain halal certification.

Halal products are products produced from halal materials in facilities that are not cross-contaminated or associated with Haram and Najis materials.

Halal: Sanctioned under Islamic Shaira law
Haram: Forbidden or proscribed by Islamic law

Najis: Ritually unclean(Removable according to cleaning requirements)

Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim country, has mandated halal certification for consumer goods, including pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

To join this trend, Sunjin is preparing to get Indonesia’s LPPOM MUI certification, one of the world’s top three halals, and will be certified this year.

The certified products will be all raw materials produced by Sunjin, a total of 218 products, and will include all new products to be released in the future.

In order to obtain halal certification, data that can evaluate the halalness of all raw materials and documents that can verify cross-contamination prevention are required.

In particular, data on all materials used in the manufacturing process, including processing aids, are needed, so there are difficulties in the process when customers prepare for halal certification.

The best way to address these challenges is to use halal certified raw materials.

Among the many halal certifications, LPPOM MUI is the most trusted Halal inspection body and its certification is known to be difficult to obtain. The LPPOM MUI-certified raw materials will help global customers obtain various halal certifications.

Nano-sized Zinc Oxide that can be used all over the world

 In this newsletter, we will introduce SUNZnO-NAS, a transparent nano-sized Zinc Oxide which is usable worldwide.

SUNZnO-NAS is a Zinc Oxide with a size of 30 nm or more and surface-treated with Triethoxycaprylylsilane. It can be used for Alumina Free formulation and also available in Europe as it satisfies SCCS opinion.

In addition, SUNZnO-NAS is Zinc Oxide manufactured in API GMP manufacturing facilities that have passed FDA inspection. It has a National Drug Code (NDC) and it can be used in the United States.

Finally, SUNZnO-NAS is a Zinc Oxide with excellent transparency due to its small size(30 nm or more). The white index value was measured lower than other products, indicating that it is a more transparent product.

How to prevent balling up in your skin care formulations

Today we will introduce how to prevent balling up in your skin care formulations.

Balling up occurs when large sized particles, such as pigments and micro beads, and polymer thickeners are lumped together, just as a ball is wound around a net and continues to clump into a large size.

To observe the balling up, we made a simple lotion formulation with 0.2% carbomer and 15% different types of microbeads, respectively.

Balling up was observed within 45 seconds of applying a 7um-sized silica to the skin, and 30 seconds of a 13um-sized silica-containing formulation. However, formulations containing the smallest sizes of 2um silica(SUNSIL-20 and SUNSIL-OLEO20) had no balling up after 60 seconds.

A large microbead is like a basketball, so when it meets a thickner, it gets more clumpy, but a small microbead is like a tennis ball, so it is much less clumpy.

Therefore, we recommend SUNSIL-20 and SUNSIL-OLEO20, which are 2um sizes, to avoid balling up.

Cosmetic market including cosmetic raw material is controlled by various global regulatory authorities including United states and Europe.

To conform to various global regulations such as USP, NMPA,
UNIFIED Technical Document is necessary for globally available products.

Especially, there are more strict regulations on UV filters such as Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide which are classified as active ingredients.
