Sunjin Beauty Science Joins Silica Consortium to Ensure Silica Safety!

This issue introduces the Silica Consortium, which Sunjin Beauty Science recently joined as part of its efforts to address safety concerns surrounding the use of silica.
Silica is classified into two types based on the crystallinity of its molecular structure: crystalline silica and amorphous silica.
Moreover, amorphous silica that is artificially produced is categorized as synthetic amorphous silica.
Synthetic Amorphous Silica (SAS) was commercialized in the 1950s
and is widely used in various consumer goods such as cosmetics, food and feed additives, beer and wine purification, and pharmaceuticals.
SCCS (Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety) has announced their opinion about Nano form silica in 2015 and 2021.
Based on a comprehensive assessment of physicochemical, toxicological, and exposure data, the available information at the time was insufficient to make a clear conclusion regarding the safety of silica use.
In the cosmetics industry, not only adhering to regulatory requirements but also ensuring product safety is important task to do.
Therefore, to address safety concerns surrounding silica, Sunjin joined the SAS Consortium led by Cosmetics Europe in January.
SAS Consortium focuses on securing the safety of silica by gathering data for the evaluation criteria and providing to Cosmetics Europe.

Also, the consortium operates comprehensive safety assessment, provides specific information of the products, and comply with raw materials and labeling rules to follow the regulations of Europe.
From now on, Sunjin Beauty Science will actively participate in consortium activities to ensure the safety of silica. We will also provide the necessary resources to supply our customers with safe products.
