Hello, this is SUNJIN Beauty Science.
Enhancing UV protection in lightweight, refreshing W/Si (Water-in-Silicone) formulations has always been a challenging task.
Organic UV filters can be difficult to incorporate due to limitations in the use of polar solvents, while increasing the concentration of inorganic UV filters often leads to white cast, agglomeration, and a heavy skin feel.
If you are looking for the perfect balance between UV protection performance, formulation stability, and a lightweight sensory profile, SH305-AS offers an effective solution.
■ Introducing SH305
Conventional silica particles typically have relatively smooth surfaces and are primarily used in sunscreen formulations to improve sensory properties or absorb excess sebum.
In contrast, SH305 features a uniquely engineered, irregular surface microstructure, providing optical and physical properties that distinguish it from conventional silica.

■ The Core Technology Behind SH305: Controlled Rough Surface
The surface roughness and microscopic irregularities of SH305 enable multidirectional light scattering, rather than reflecting incident light in a single direction.
In the visible light spectrum, this creates a soft-focus effect, providing a blurring effect that visually minimizes the appearance of wrinkles and pores. In the UV spectrum, incident UV light is scattered in multiple directions, helping reduce the concentration of UV energy on the skin's surface.
As a result, SH305 does not function as a direct UV-absorbing or UV-blocking filter. Instead, it acts as a physical auxiliary material that controls the optical path and energy distribution of UV light.

■ Advanced Surface Treatment Technology: Overcoming the Limitations of Silicone-Based Formulations
Despite its excellent functional properties, untreated SH305 has traditionally presented formulation challenges, particularly a significant increase in viscosity when dispersed in silicone and ester oils.
To overcome these limitations, SUNJIN BEAUTY SCIENCE developed SH305-AS using Triethoxycaprylylsilane surface treatment.
* D5 Oil: 17,500 cP → 430 cP (approximately 97.5% reduction!)
* Cetiol CC: 7,890 cP → 620 cP
* Cetiol Ultimate: 1,660 cP → 80 Cp
By reducing viscosity by more than 97%, SH305-AS transforms previously thick and agglomerated oil dispersions into smooth, fluid systems with excellent dispersibility and processability.
■ Proven Performance in a Real Formulation: OTC Clear Zinc Sun Cream
With its excellent dispersibility in silicone and oil phases, SH305-AS helps form a dense, uniform sunscreen film, demonstrating higher SPF/PA boosting efficiency and superior formulation stability compared to conventional SH305.
■ Key Formulation Benefits of SH305-AS
SH305-AS is a 100% silica-based material that offers the following formulation benefits:
* SPF enhancement without increasing UV filter concentration
* Compatibility with both inorganic and organic UV filter systems
* Greater formulation flexibility while maintaining desirable sensory properties
* Soft-focus effects that visually blur wrinkles and pores
Powered by advanced surface microstructure engineering, SH305-AS is a next-generation physical SPF booster backed by proven performance data. For detailed formulation guidelines, please feel free to contact us.

🔎 Summary FAQ — SH305-AS
■ Q1. How does SH305-AS enhance SPF performance?
SH305 consists of pure silica beads with a particle size of 2 μm. Its unique dimpled surface structure scatters light within the UV film, extending the optical path length. This allows UV filters in the formulation to absorb more UV radiation, resulting in enhanced SPF and PA performance.
■ Q2. Does SH305-AS retain the same surface structure as SH305 after AS coating?
Triethoxycaprylylsilane surface treatment imparts hydrophobic properties while preserving the original microscopic surface irregularities of SH305. Therefore, SH305-AS maintains the same light-scattering properties and UV-boosting functionality as SH305.
