Hello, this is Sunjin Beauty Science.
The 2026 IFSCC Congress, one of the most prestigious events in the world of cosmetic science, brought together beauty scientists from around the globe to showcase the latest innovations and technologies.
At this year’s congress in Perth, Australia, Sunjin Beauty Science presented five research posters—the largest number among Korean cosmetic ingredient manufacturers—once again demonstrating our strong R&D capabilities on the global stage.
From particle engineering and surface modification to advanced UV protection technologies, discover the latest research achievements from Sunjin Beauty Science that are capturing the attention of the global beauty industry.
[Poster Session] Key Research Highlights
① Clean and Nature-Inspired Surface Engineering of Amphiphilic Zinc Oxide
We developed amphiphilic zinc oxide (ZnO) through tannic acid- and fatty acid-based surface modification. The modified ZnO enabled stable Pickering emulsions without surfactants, while reducing whitening and achieving approximately 97% inhibition of photo-induced ROS. Optimization studies are currently underway toward commercialization.
② A Novel Metal-Phenolic Coating on Silica for Extending TiO₂ UV Absorption and Enhancing Sunscreen Efficacy
A Zn²⁺–tannic acid network was formed on the silica–TiO₂ surface, extending UV absorption into the HEV range. This resulted in a 395% increase in SPF and a 351% increase in UVAPF. Follow-up research is currently underway at the laboratory scale.
③ Hectorite Nanoclay as a Multifunctional Inorganic Stabilizer for Poorly Soluble Skin Actives
Using hectorite nanoclay, we developed a delivery platform that suppresses crystallization of poorly soluble active ingredients while enabling their stable loading and dispersion in the oil phase. The platform demonstrated potential to improve formulation stability and skin delivery efficiency for actives such as ceramide, TECA, and quercetin.
④ Phase-Partitioned Encapsulation of Avobenzone for Enhanced Photostability and Synergistic UV Protection
Avobenzone was encapsulated within silica and selectively positioned in the aqueous phase, minimizing direct contact with OMC in the oil phase and suppressing photodegradation. This approach improved the photostability of avobenzone while achieving in vivo UV protection at the SPF 50+ and PA++++ level.
⑤ A Non-Nano Mineral SPF Booster for Enhanced UV Protection with Zero White Cast
We developed a non-nano TiO₂ booster using a microsilica capsule structure, reducing white cast while maintaining high transparency. The booster demonstrated an approximately 2-fold enhancement in UV protection performance in mineral sunscreen formulations.

[IFSCC Praesidium Activities]
Alongside its continued research contributions to IFSCC, Sunjin Beauty Science has also been strengthening Korea’s presence in the global cosmetic science community. Since 2021, CEO Seongho Lee has served as a member of the IFSCC Praesidium.
At this year’s IFSCC Congress in Australia, active contributions were made to the successful organization of the congress through participation in numerous preparatory meetings and serving as a chair for a Podium Session.
※ IFSCC Praesidium: The executive body of the IFSCC, composed of key officers who oversee the federation’s international operations and major academic and committee activities.
Sunjin Beauty Science will continue to advance innovative beauty technologies on the global stage through ongoing research and development.
