PMMA bead with regard to microplastic marine
contamination concerns
 
SUNJIN CHEMICAL CO, LTD hereby states that PMMA bead has no risk related to the micro plastic marine contamination concern which is summarized below;
 
As described in The Guardian Newspaper published in the UK in December 2012:
 
“It is true that microscopic particles of polyethylene now bob around the high seas. It's also true that the
origins of these
microplastics are likely to be consumer products. Washing your face can be an act of
pollution if you use a cleaner that contains zillions of plastic microbeads for exfoliation. Too small to be sifted
out at sewage treatment plants, they end up in the ocean, where the plastic becomes a persistent pollutant. As
sea temperatures are low, plastic does not biodegrade; it is also ingested by wildlife.”

These concerns are mainly derived from the facts below:
 
However PMMA beads are composed of Polymethylmethacrylate.
*The density of  
Polymethylmethacrylate is 1.17~1.20g/cm3. Because Polymethylmethacrylate is
significantly more dense than water, PMMA beads sediment to the bottom of sewer
systems and are filteredout of the system.
**PMMA beads therefore do not pass through  
the sewer system and do not reach the ocean.
