Cosmetic material industries are comprised of both fashion and high technology.
This means cosmetic material industries is not all about the synthetic technology but it also requires good understanding on the trends. Sunjin started from developing duplicates of products from many advanced companies.
However, today Sunjin is showing outstanding performance with many world first and only unique materials as a part of global company. This is thanks to our R&D team developing each material from consumer’s point of view and make quick action to commercialize products that answers to the consumer’s needs and demands.
1. Morphology Controlling Nanotechnology
Since 2002, Sunjin has been developing methods for synthesizing many different kinds of nanoparticles. In 2019, Sunjin further explored and successfully developed world first mass producible rod type ZnO (Zinc oxide) particles that are commercially available. Rod type ZnO particles have huge advantages over sphere type ZnO particles in the use of sunscreen with higher UV blocking performances and lower in whitening effect.
2. Encapsulation/Synthetic Technology
Sunjin is currently developing and mass producing various high quality UV filter materials with our own unique combined encapsulation and synthetic technology. The capsule products synthesized using this combined technology provide premium sunscreen materials which improves whitening and rough sensation problems of many inorganic UV filters and minimizes irritating problems of many organic UV filters.
3. Hectorite Based Emulsifier and Thickener
Sunjin successfully mass produced surface modified Hectorite and applied these materials in formulation to introduce silicon free hectorite based water releasing W/O emulsion (ECODROPGEL) for the first time in the world.
4. Active Ingredients Delivery System
Hectorite has plate crystalline structure which can self-assemble into house of cards/honey comb network structure that can retain various active ingredients. In this way, Sunjin was able to develop numerous skin care products that use hectorite as an active cosmetic ingredient delivering system.
Sunjin has developed Hectorite based active ingredients delivery system as shown in following Figure. Sunjin first modified Hectorite surface with DDAC in order to provide lipophilic surface and dispersed these materials in oil phase to form Hectogel. Then emulsifier was further introduced to prepare 2D Hybrid Emulsifier where Ceramide and other active ingredients can be added to prepare our most recent innovative products, CERAPLEX and ACTIVEPLEX.
5. Microbeads Synthesis
Sunjin has been mass producing both organic and inorganic based microbeads. These days, however, Sunjin is mainly focusing on the development of potential replacement for the microplastic beads using silica based materials.
6. Surface Treatment Technology
Since 1960s, fatty acids were most commonly used surfactant for providing lipophilic surface on the particles.
However, ester bonds on the surface are known to be readily cleaved in the presence of water. In addition, unsaturated fatty acids can be oxidized to cause unpleasant odor to the products. Therefore, silicone based surfactants are being more actively used in these days from 1980s.
However, there are high demands for eco-friendly materials these days. Therefore, Sunjin used saturated fatty alcohol as a surfactant which tightly binds to the surface of the particles with ether bonds for long term stability. As of 2017, Sunjin is mass producing saturated fatty alcohol surface treated particles that answers customer’s demand for eco-friendly and stable surfactant.
7. Cosmetic Formulation Technology
Sunjin has developed many innovative world first and only formulations such as silicone-free water releasing skin care formulation and stabilized Ceramide composed W/O formulation. Formulation and material technologies are highly intertwined and it is very important to know how materials behave in the formulation. In addition when materials are presented in the forms of formulation, materials are much more appealing to the customers as they can visually understand actual application of the materials.
